Komatsu at Bauma 2025
At Bauma, we realized that we don’t have the right filter for every Komatsu. Still, it was amazing to see the Williams Formula 1 car in real life.
Did you know Komatsu was in Formula 1 before?
In the 1990s, Komatsu sponsored the Williams Formula 1 team, during one of its most dominant eras. Between 1993 and 1997, Williams powered by Renault engines and supported by Komatsu—won multiple Constructors' and Drivers' Championships, with legends like Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill, and Jacques Villeneuve behind the wheel.
Komatsu’s involvement wasn’t just a branding move. The Japanese industrial giant contributed engineering expertise, particularly in precision machining and component manufacturing, aligning its heavy equipment know-how with the demands of high-performance motorsport. This partnership highlighted the shared values between Komatsu and Formula 1: innovation, precision, and relentless pursuit of performance.
Komatsu developments shown at Bauma 2025
Komatsu presented a vision of the future of construction and mining machinery. With a strong focus on sustainability, automation, and operator efficiency, the company introduced several new machines and digital innovations.
One of the most notable developments was Komatsu’s expansion of its electric equipment lineup. The company introduced three new electric mini excavators:
PC20E
PC26E
PC33E
These machines are specifically designed for urban construction environments where low emissions and reduced noise are essential.
To support the shift toward electric machinery, Komatsu also introduced a Mobile Megawatt Charging System (MWCS), developed in collaboration with Dimaag. This scalable charging solution, offering capacities from 1MW to 6MW, is designed specifically for use in environments without easy access to electricity.
Komatsu also emphasized automation and digital jobsite management. The newly introduced PC220LCi-12 hydraulic excavator features the latest version of Komatsu’s Intelligent Machine Control system. iMC 3.0 integrates digital twinning of the machine, automated operations and further features, such as real-time payload monitoring.
